Cigarettes @ Sunset Share Heavy-Hitting New Single “Gasoline”

Cigarettes @ Sunset are back with “Gasoline,” a blistering new single that pushes their Appalachian possum rock sound into darker, heavier territory. Out now via Lost Highway Records, the track turns post-breakup destruction, unresolved grief, and self-sabotage into a raw Southern rock release built for full-volume listening.

A Brutally Self-Aware Southern Rock Release

One of the band’s most heavy-hitting songs to date, “Gasoline” follows their longtime fan favorite “Appalachian Raised,” a May release that was recently featured on Spotify’s Indigo playlist. Where “Appalachian Raised” looked outward as an ode to their homeland, “Gasoline” turns inward, channeling bruising emotional honesty into a track that feels both cathartic and volatile.

Produced by Taylor Kimball, whose credits include Wyatt Flores and Koe Wetzel, the single highlights the band’s raw but nuanced musicianship. Brooding rhythms, crunchy riffs, and woozy violin lines pull the song into a tense emotional spiral while frontman Garrett Dellinger documents the damage of unresolved grief.

The Band Behind Appalachian Possum Rock

Formed in 2021 in Boone, North Carolina, Cigarettes @ Sunset have built a sound they call Appalachian possum rock, a visceral collision of Americana, indie rock, Appalachian folk, and punk spirit. The five-piece lineup includes Garrett Dellinger on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Wells Whitman on bass and backing vocals, Ethan Moore on drums, Sarah Vann on violin and vocals, and Ryland Bagbey on lead guitar.

The band made their Lost Highway Records debut in March with Possum Rock, a six-song EP named after their self-coined genre. The project followed grassroots momentum built through backyard gigs, more than 100 self-booked shows in 2024, and a 2025 U.S. tour with Dexter and The Moonrocks.

A Massive Tour Starts Next Week

Next Tuesday, August 4, Cigarettes @ Sunset will hit the road with Dexter and The Moonrocks for a coast-to-coast trek that runs through late December. The run includes major venue stops such as the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and Webster Hall in New York City, plus upcoming dates with Ole 60 and Rainbow Kitten Surprise.

The band will also head to Australia in October for Strummingbird Festival, continuing a year built around new music and a fast-growing live reputation. Known for a cathartic, combustible stage presence, Cigarettes @ Sunset are turning “Gasoline” into another sign that their next chapter is only getting louder.
