Tale of Two Men

This is a story of two champions that took opposite paths but still worked very hard to achieve their common goal: to win the championships. There are a million memes floating around telling you to not give up on your dreams and this comparison is no different.

The Washington Capitals won their first championship against the Las Vegas Golden Knights during the Knights’ first season as a NHL team. In their first season, the Knights were about to end the year with a record of 51-24-7. I’m no fan of hockey so I’m guessing for a first-year team that it is a good start. It most certainly beats the record of the Capitals first -game- season which was 8-67-5 forty-three years ago. My point is the Capitals have come along way. At the end of the 2017-2018 season their record was 49-26-7 & due to hard work and dedication they finally won their first Stanley Cup. Much respect to the players of the Capitals, especially Alexander Ovechkin.

“Ove” has been with the Capitals since 2004 and despite losing for multiple years, the Captain of the Capitals and his team mates did not discontinue their journey to getting their names on the Stanley Cup. Ove exhibits the type of determination that you must have if you want to accomplish your goals. He stood tall with the same team for over fourteen years and with grit and discipline he kept his eyes on the prize. Do not give up on your dreams. Even if they aren’t going as good as you planned for, look at Ove’s example of determination as your motivation for you to accomplish your goals. Ovechkin’s method isn’t the only way to go about winning in life. You can also do things the KD Way.

Kevin Durant is a power forward for the Golden State Warriors. KD played for the Seattle SuperSonics before they became the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008. In Oklahoma,He played with them alongside Russell Westbrook & James Harden before KD decided to take his talents to The Bay. KD and his teammates never made it to the finals but they were pretty good. After Kevin left it the city felt resentment for the franchise player and one of the people who seemed to show it most was his buddy and teammate Russell Westbrook. Many people criticized KD for making this move but not many can deny that the Seat Pleasant, MD native brings something to the already plentiful table.

Since joining the GSW organization in 2016, Kevin show to not only to be an asset to the team and to the community but to his hometown of Prince George’s County. He has won two NBA championships and was awarded with MVP after assisting with winning the 2017-2018 NBA championship. KD isn’t new to receiving MVP award; he has won it previously with the Thunder. Kevin has clearly shown that regardless of the organization, he is going to shine. With the GSW he was given the opportunity to shine amongst a team of individuals that pushed him to be better.

As I stated earlier this is about two men who decided to achieve their goals in two different ways. You can comment for days about these men and their methods to victory but this isn’t all about them. What are you doing for yourself so that you can become victorious in achieving that one thing that you want the most. Whatever that thing may be I want to tell you to go after it. Be dedicated with it, take up for it & if it doesn’t work it’s okay to go somewhere else so that it can work. People are going to talk regardless so you might as well give them more to talk about.

Here are the playlists that these victories have inspired me to create.
