The wait is over — breakout singer/songwriter Hannah McFarland has teamed up with platinum-selling country star Chase Rice for a brand-new single, “Foolin’.” The heart-melting but carefree duet is out now alongside its charming, retro-inspired video.

A Song About Friends on the Edge of Something More
Co-written by McFarland with Madison Kozak and Rivers Rutherford, “Foolin’” tells the story of two friends teetering on the edge of romance, both reluctant to admit their feelings. The Alabama native’s tender storytelling pairs perfectly with Rice’s signature grit, creating a playful yet emotional dynamic.
“Having Chase on this song not only gives it more life, but it gave me a chance to work with one of my close friends,” says McFarland. “Can’t wait to get ‘Foolin’’ out into the world!”
Rice adds, “It’s the first country song I’ve ever been featured on, and I love that Hannah asked me of all people to be part of it.”
Festival-Tested, Fan-Approved
Fans first got a taste of “Foolin’” at Boots and Hearts Music Festival in Ontario last month, where McFarland and Rice performed it live to massive cheers. The buzz from that performance only fueled anticipation for the official release.
Produced by Oscar Charles and Logan Wall, the song blends warm guitar licks, playful fiddle melodies, and a rolling rhythm that builds to a chorus dripping with romantic tension:
“Don’t wanna stay all night / Don’t wanna go home now / We know what we’re doing / But who are we foolin’?”
Whether trading lines or harmonizing, McFarland and Rice shine with undeniable chemistry.
The Video
Directed by Julia Robert, the music video doubles down on the song’s timeless charm. Shot at a vintage photobooth, the clip captures McFarland and Rice singing straight to camera, sharing tequila shots, and eventually joined by Rice’s scene-stealing black Lab, Jack. The result is a sweet, feel-good visual that matches the song’s playful energy.
A Breakout Year for Hannah McFarland
“Foolin’” is the latest in a string of high-profile collaborations for McFarland. Just last week she appeared on Riley Green’s “I Just Need You” (Don’t Mind If I Do – Deluxe), with Holler. praising her striking harmonies. Earlier this year, she also featured on Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know 2.0.”
Her February debut EP Broken Hearts landed on coveted playlists like NPR’s All Songs Considered: New Music Friday, cementing her status as one to watch in country music.
On the Road
McFarland is hitting the road hard this fall:
Supporting Chase Rice on tour starting tonight in Fargo, ND
Heading overseas in mid-September to join Riley Green in the UK and Europe
Returning to the U.S. in November for arena dates across the Midwest with Green
She’s also previously shared the stage with Tucker Wetmore and Kip Moore, building a reputation as a live act who wins over every crowd.
The Bottom Line
With “Foolin’,” Hannah McFarland proves yet again why she’s one of country’s brightest rising stars. Add in Chase Rice’s star power and their undeniable chemistry, and this duet feels destined to become a fan favorite.
