Alt-pop rising star Leyla Ebrahimi is back with a haunting and heartfelt new single, “i don’t like being left behind,” out now via Deerfield Records / Interscope Records. The track blends synth-pop, darkwave, post-punk, and dreamy indie into a striking exploration of heartbreak and recovery — one that feels as cinematic as it is personal.

A Soundtrack for Heartbreak and Healing
Produced by Alexander 23 (known for his work with Olivia Rodrigo and Reneé Rapp) and longtime collaborator Shane Pielocik, the song mirrors Leyla’s emotional evolution in real time. She opens with raw indignation — “I don’t like being left behind / How could you leave me behind?” — before moving toward reluctant acceptance and, finally, a fragile kind of hope.
Through a wash of epic synths, vocoded vocals, grinding guitars, and airy textures, Leyla builds a world where heartbreak sounds both furious and freeing.
Inspired by Daft Punk, Driven by Emotion
In her own words, Leyla shared that the track is one of her favorites to date:
“I’ve always loved Daft Punk, and the chorus here is vastly inspired by their music. I’ve found it easiest to navigate love and loss and anger and hope through the music I write — this song encompasses all those things. And none of it is linear.”
That blend of vulnerability and experimentation has quickly become her signature — music that doesn’t just tell a story, but feels like living through it.
Building Momentum and Defying Genre
“i don’t like being left behind” follows Leyla’s recent single “nobody matters but You,” a cathartic, three-part journey from quiet heartbreak to full-throated release. Before that came “i’m too pretty for this,” a playful yet introspective anthem that earned spots on Spotify’s Young & Free playlist and more.
Since releasing her first song, “if there is a light it’s burning out,” — a tender acoustic debut recorded to the backdrop of her Persian-American family’s dinner — Leyla has shown an uncanny ability to make the personal universal. Now based in New York, she’s laying the groundwork for her debut EP, promising more music that’s as raw and genre-bending as ever.
See Leyla Live
Fans can catch Leyla Ebrahimi live at her first-ever headline shows this November:

The Brooklyn date is especially symbolic — Union Pool is where Leyla once worked behind the bar while writing the very songs she’s now performing onstage.
