Nine Inch Nails are officially back. The band just unveiled the music video for their explosive new single “As Alive As You Need Me To Be,” marking their first official release in five years.
Directed by Maxime Quoilin, the video captures the track’s claustrophobic energy and its central lyric, “All these hands have got a hold of me.” Produced by Ryan Hahn with creative direction from mtla.studio, the visual feels as intense and pressure-packed as the song itself.
A Classic NIN Sound, With a New Twist
The single has already been praised by The New York Times as “a return to the buzz-bomb synthesizers, stomping march beat, stereo ricochets and gut-wrenching vocals of the band’s heyday.”
It’s also the first taste of the upcoming TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), out September 19 via Interscope Records. This project marks the first full film score released under the Nine Inch Nails name, though Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are no strangers to cinematic music—they’ve already picked up two Oscars, three Golden Globes, a GRAMMY, and an Emmy for their previous scores.
Fans can pre-order the soundtrack now, including a 7” vinyl of “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” with B-side “Empathetic Response.” Disney’s TRON: Ares hits U.S. theaters on October 10.
A Surprise Premiere in Brooklyn
After wrapping the first of two sold-out shows at Barclays Center in Brooklyn last night, fans leaving the arena were treated to an unexpected bonus: the new music video blasted across the venue’s big screens—and even appeared on nearby subway station displays.
Tonight, Brooklyn gets round two before the band heads south for the rest of their sold-out “Peel It Back” world tour. The North American leg closes with a two-night run at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on September 18–19.
Joining Reznor and Ross on stage are longtime collaborators Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, and Josh Freese, with Boys Noize supporting on all dates.

Between a long-awaited new single, their first-ever official film score, and a massive sold-out tour, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Nine Inch Nails. If “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” is any indication, TRON: Ares might just be the perfect collision of NIN’s industrial firepower and cinematic scale.
