Rising Texas alternative force Novulent is back with a new single, “self destruct,” out now via Capitol Records.

The shoegaze-drenched release serves as the first taste of the forthcoming VOL. 3 Deluxe set, expanding on February’s fan-adored VOL. 3 and pushing deeper into the emotional world Novulent has built across their coming-of-age album trilogy.

The new track arrives as Novulent prepares for their biggest headlining run yet, VOL.3 THE FINAL ALBUM TOUR. The trek kicks off June 11 in El Paso and will bring Novulent, backed by a full band, across much of the United States before wrapping with three Texas dates in San Antonio, McAllen, and Houston.

A Heavy New Chapter

Produced by kuga, “self destruct” opens with a massive wall of guitar before Novulent’s voice cuts through the distortion. The song then erupts with drums and bass, creating an all-consuming atmosphere that feels built for the stage.

Lyrically, the record captures the aftermath of being hurt by someone while still carrying the weight of the connection. Novulent sings through the chaos with a directness that turns pain into power, making “self destruct” feel less like surrender and more like survival.

I promised myself I’d never make another song like “scars” again unless I felt that heavy feeling. That day has come. In the end, I never really grew up. I just found a different problem.

The World of VOL. 3

While “scars” found Novulent deeply wounded, “self destruct” projects strength. That makes it a fitting addition to VOL. 3 Deluxe, which closes out a trilogy shaped by heartbreak, healing, reflection, and emotional gray areas.

VOL. 3 blends shoegaze, post-punk, and dream pop into a personal narrative shaped by love’s messy highs and devastating lows. Inspired in part by early 2000s films such as Thirteen, All About Lily Chou-Chou, and Mysterious Skin, the project captures the tension between beauty, damage, and growth.

The album has already earned strong praise, with Stardust Magazine describing VOL. 3 as a finale that feels like a beginning, while Ones To Watch compared the LP to a feature film with a carefully crafted script. Novulent also landed on Spotify’s Shoegaze Now playlist cover and returned to Alternative Press’ AP A-sides lineup with “sweet revenge.”

Across VOL. 3, singles like “evil eye,” “rip,” “sacrifice,” “boys lie and girls steal,” and “new low” have shown the many sides of Novulent’s sound, from fuzzed-out catharsis to bittersweet dream-pop. With “self destruct,” the deluxe era begins with even more intensity.
