I’m not quite sure what got Pusha T and Drake so fired up or even where the beef between these two originated from but it has the streets buzzing. The Virginia rapper dropped an album on the last Friday in May and the streets has been rapping lyrics of his ever since but it wasn’t only because of the release of his eleventh studio album.
On the last song of the album named DAYTONA Pusha makes digs at Lil Wayne & his situation with Cash Money Records CEO Birdman and he doesn’t stop there. He also takes shots at Drake & brags about selling “more dope than Eazy E.” The album is only seven songs long and were all produced by Kanye West. The album is a good body of work, but in my personal opinion Wrath of Caine & King Push were better to me.
Later that night, Drake drops duppy freestyle on the OVO SoundCloud page & this put social media into a frenzy. Drake has always been an animal when it comes to devouring any opponent that blew smoke his way. This time were no different, not only did he blow smoke at Pusha but also towards Kanye West as well. Drake mentioned how he use to be a fan of Pusha, Virgil, how he’s killing the game and mentioned Virginia Williams, Pusha T’s fiancé. To add insult to injury, in the song Drake told Push that he will be sending an invoice over for helping with increase in sale and shortly after an invoice was posted on Drake’s Instagram page. Man that boy, is cold.
At the end of the song Drake says Duppy, which after some googling I learned, is a Jamaican Patois word that means ghost or spirit. Occurring to Google, duppies manifest a dead person’s souls by taking on a human or animal form. I guess he’s taking Pusha’s soul? I don’t dapple into the taking of dead souls so I’ll leave that be.
Memorial Day Weekend came and went and not one peep from Pusha T. But come Tuesday night and there was buzzing going on social media. The response that everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived and what a response it was. Pusha T dropped his response also on his SoundCloud page with the picture of a young Aubrey Graham with black paint on his face with a big red smile not only painted on his face as if Venom & Joker had a baby but he has the biggest grin ever. Oh Pusha had time cuz.
Titled the story of Adidon, which is allegedly the name of Drake’s son, Pusha T doesn’t stop with just the mentioned of Drake’s mom & Dad he mentions the name of Drake’s child mother and about her former place of employment. Someone in the OVO camp is spilling secrets because bringing up the alleged child and mom is wild. It took me back to that time when Jay Z & Nas were sparring lyrically. Good times.
So you would think Pusha would stop there but no, he even went as far as mentioning Drake’s producer 40 who has MS, also known as multiple sclerosis. For those who don’t know MS is a lifelong neurological disease that has various signs and symptoms that range from physical, mental & psychiatric issues. I’m not going to front, Pusha went a tad bit far with the sick disses against 40, but all is fair game in hip hop beef.
This quarrel has been coming to a boil for sometimes now according to those that well versed with the particulars of this beef. Some say this goes as far back as Exodus 23:1 and the two have been silently sending shots to each other ever since. Drake was speaking to him on the song "Two Birds One Stone". It doesn’t really matter where it started but this is something that those in the hip hop community have been anticipating for quite some time. Beefs like these will out live the records because people want to gossip about who gets called out for committing verbal homicide.
Did I mention that summer is just getting started? I wonder who will come out the victor in this scenario? This round goes to Drake even he Pusha has receipts for his claims. Will Drake resume his sit on his OVO throne or will Pusha knock him off of his pillar & lyrically demolish him?? I guess we’ll find out it’s finna be a long summer.
