Hunter Metts has officially released his brand-new EP A Crater Wide, out now via Position Music / Interscope Records. The seven-track project captures the heart of Metts’ storytelling — blending harmony-rich indie-folk with a luminous sense of joy.
The EP opens with the warm and swaying new single “Heavy, Heavy Love,” a track that perfectly sets the tone for what follows. It also includes Metts’ viral hit “Weathervane,” which took over global charts earlier this year and has already racked up more than 57 million streams worldwide.
Rooted in Storytelling and Nature
A Crater Wide was recorded at the legendary The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, and co-produced with Andrew Berlin (known for his work with Gregory Alan Isakov). The result is a lush, down-to-earth folk sound that stands apart from the noise of the modern world.
Metts drew inspiration from real moments in his life and the natural world around him:
“Abilene” reflects on family history and the Texas town where his grandfather was adopted.
“Blue Ridge Run” is a heartfelt ode to the Appalachian landscape.
“Center Of The Universe” captures the rare beauty of once-in-a-lifetime love.
“These songs came from the last year of my life — moments that linger and mean something,” Metts explains. “I tried to keep them honest, simple, and familiar — something anyone can come back to.”
From Viral Breakout to Headline Tour
The EP arrives as Metts’ star continues to rise. Fresh off a sold-out London show at The Lower Third, he’s gearing up for his first-ever U.S. headline run: the crater wide tour, kicking off October 28 in Minneapolis. The 10-city trek will hit major stops including Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and more, wrapping November 11 in Portland, Maine.👉 Tour info at huntermetts.com
A Musical Journey in Full Bloom
Born into a musical family, Metts grew up playing instruments and finding inspiration in artists like Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes. Before turning music into his full-time path, he worked as a coder — but after releasing his 2021 debut “The River,” he left his day job behind to fully pursue his craft.
His debut EP Monochrome explored love in all its forms. With A Crater Wide, Metts takes that emotional depth even further, embracing nature, nostalgia, and connection with a sound that feels both intimate and timeless.
